Middle Distance and Sprint Events
Competitors will be expected to enter the course for their age group . Running down will not score any points as the courses are already shorter than the "Classic" distances .
Running up will score on the usual rules as below. A review of these events and the scoring will take place before 2011 to see if any changes are required to the rules.
Scoring
If you run in the correct designated class (Long in Level 2 events) for your age and win, you score 100 points. If you run in the correct class and do not win, then your time is divided into the winner's time to find the fraction of the winner's 100 points that you score.
If you run one class lower than your correct class at Level 3 events (or Short at Level 2 events), then you score 50 points if you win for your age, or a fraction of the winner's 50 points if you do not win for your age.
If you run more than one course down at Level 3 events then you do not score.
For many age classes there are intermediate courses at Level 2 events - courses which are shorter than the Long age class course and longer than the Short age class course. If you win one of these then you score 75 points or a fraction of the winner's 75 points if you do not win.
If you run up a class, then you compete against the first East Anglian in that class, with your time divided into their time to find the fraction of 100 points that you score. If you should win then you score 100 points and the person in the correct age class will also score 100 points. Others in the correct age class always have their time divided into the age class winner's time to work out their score.
At the end of the year, your overall score is determined by adding up your four best scores over the year. You must also have attended a minimum of three events to qualify for overall positions (this may be reduced if there are less than 7 events).
Helper points - the Controller, Planner , non competing Organiser or non competing S.I. Manager of an East Anglian League event will be given a score for that event equal to the highest score that they attained at any other East Anglian League event that year.
The Club Champion and other positions are obtained by adding up every single point scored by all the members of the club, including those who score under 100, and dividing by the number of units in the club.
You do not need to register to compete in the East Anglian League, you just need to run a course as detailed above and I will automatically calculate the points for all runners who belong to an EA club (CUOC, DRONGO, HAVOC, NOR, RAFO, SMOC, SOS, SUFFOC, WAOC). Competitors from Schools affiliated to East Anglian Clubs are also included.
It would help if you ensure that you state your correct Club and age class when entering - this will reduce the chances of errors in the points calculation. Please remember that age classes change only on the 1st January each year - no matter when your birthday is.
