Letters to the editor

Distribution of Points East

Dear Ursula,

SOS have not yet had an opportunity to discuss how we are going to distribute Points East but I would agree with Mark Johnson's letter in the last PE: to have it available on the East Anglian web site and available in hard copy at EA events. If people want it sent via the post then they should let you know.

If PE as produced by the East Anglian Orienteering Association is of value (I personally feel it is, but others might not) then East Anglian OA should be the body to distribute it, as suggested above. I don't feel it is fair to put the extra burden on Club editors or any one else in the Club. If it is not of value then it should stop production.

I realise this issue has been discussed many times and would like to thank you for all your work you have put into PE. Here's hoping something can be resolved for all.

Regards,

Hilary Sellens (Secretary SOS)

Distribution of Points East - Editor's thoughts and pleas

Many thanks to Hilary for this letter, which makes points about distribution which have been raised by me in Committee on behalf of a number of club secretaries/EAOA reps who have contacted me. My position is this:

I am personally unwilling to distribute Points East at O Events, but would be delighted if someone else were willing to have a go at it. I gather that Peter Softley, the previous Editor, saved a considerable amount in postage by doing this, though I always got my copy by post. As Editor of PE, I really do not think that I can also be responsible for distribution now that the readership has doubled. We are urgently looking for a Points East Distribution Manager - please let me or Peter Leverington know if you are willing to take this on.

The editorial content of Points East is now available on the EAOA Web site before it lands on your doormat (the EA Fixtures List is already available there). PLEASE, if you are on-line, consider receiving an e-copy PE: this would save trees, printing costs, distribution costs and considerable distribution hassle, although of course if PE is your preferred bed-time reading, then we are flattered to continue to provide you with the hard copy edition!

Our plan is to maintain a list of e-mail addresses of those willing to access PE via the Web. Each time that a new edition is put in place on the EAOA Web site, we would e-mail you all, with a reminder of the Web address of the new edition. Is there anyone out there willing to be the Points East e-Distribution Manager? If so, please contact me or Peter Leverington.

Meanwhile, if you are willing to receive Points East electronically, please e-mail me at u.oxburgh@ic.ac.uk with Subject: Subscribe PE and I will put you on the list for the April Points East. By the way, we shall maintain the confidentiality of your e-mail address: it will not be revealed to the other subscribers - AND you will not have to download a huge tangle of e-mail addresses before you get to the information..
